"It's about more than just Basketball..."

The two-hour documentary and its director/cinematographer, Peter Schnall, were nominated for a 2005 Emmy in the category “Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft: Cinematography. This Is A Game Ladies made its national debut on PBS affiliates in December of 2004. It follows the Scarlet Knights throughout the 2000-2001 season, one year removed from Rutgers’ first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament Final Four. The piece made its international debut at the AFI/Discovery Silverdocs Film Festival in June of 2003 in Silver Springs, MD, and also appeared at the Starz Denver International Film Festival, the Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival, the High Falls (Rochester, NY) Film Festival and the Trenton Film Festival. This Is A Game Ladies won the Audience Award at Silverdocs, and was named Best Documentary at Ft. Lauderdale.

Director Peter Schnall dedicates this story not just to the players and their season, but also to the lady who gives all of her being to the cause. A visionary, a mother and a widow, Coach (C. Vivian) Stringer has overcome insurmountable odds and personal tragedy as she continues to form talented athletes into confident women and committed citizens. Some say that women’s basketball is more passionate and unaffected than its male counterpart, and This Is A Game Ladies makes a persuasive case.

Partisan Pictures, located in New York, NY, has filmed numerous documentaries for National Geographic TV, PBS, the History Channel, BBC, Devillier/Donegan and the Discovery Channel. Partisan founder Schnall has won six Emmys.

Press:

“This Is A Game Ladies succeeds on many levels. The outstanding cinematography and energizing music keep pace with the young women of Rutgers." - Gabriel Wardell of Silverdocs

"9 Stars (out of 10)! You don't have to be a jock ... to fall for this documentary..."  - TV Guide

"... Involving and Exhilarating..."  - Hollywood Reporter

"... Edge-of-the-seat Coverage..." - Philadelphia Inquirer

"... Dramatic and Affecting... " - New york Times

"You don't have to be a sports fan to be drawn into this doc, which spends a season with the Rutgers University basketball team. There are thrills, spills and disappointments. But mostly, it's about the ladies themselves and Stringer in particular. The woman is a dynamo who is an astonishing mix of drive and motherly love. Good stuff." - THE ALBEQUERQUE TRIBUNE, DECEMBER 15, 2004

"You know this fly-on-the-wall chronicle of life in women's college basketball is going to be special from the first scene. The Scarlet Knights seem to be giving their all, but they fall short. It's a crushing loss, and filmmaker Peter Schnall captures it in all of its pathos." - THE KANSAS CITY STAR, DECEMBER 12, 2004
